Extension of Visas for the Foreigners in Sri Lanka

This is further to the previous notice released by the Department of Immigration and Emigration on 01.04.2020 with regard to the extension of visas for the Foreigners residing in Sri Lanka.

Having considered the spread of Covid-19 virus in the country, the validity period of all types of Visas issued to all foreigners who are currently residing in Sri Lanka had been extended till 12th May 2020.

However, in line with the Government policy to revive the economy while paying special attention to the challenges posed in Sri Lanka in the wake of COVID – 19 outbreak, the Department has also planned to provide its services to the customers. Accordingly, visa division of the Department is currently in the process of introducing an Online Application Submission service for the purpose of extending the visas. Successful submission of an application will be facilitated with an Appointment Notice for the applicant to visit the Department. The procedure for the submission of applications will be advertised in due course.   

In par with public health safety, all visa holders awaiting to extend existing visas are kindly requested to stay until the Online Application Submission System is in place. Those who possess due Appointment Notice are only be permitted to enter Visa Division of the Department when the Department opens for public after scheduled curfew lift.

This notice is issued as per the instructions of the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration.
